Hi, I’m Anne
I'm a communication designer based in Germany.
Born in 1996 in Hann. Münden and growing up in Kassel, I didn't have an inkling on how common my given name Anne was in other parts of the world. Thus my online presence soon became the alias of Inky for ease of communication in online spaces. This nickname stuck and became synonymous with my art, which is a big part of my life.
I studied Communication Design and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 2022 from RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, Wiesbaden. During my studies, I focused on conception, concept art, illustration, graphic design, and layout.
I have worked in and with design agencies, as the art director of the Worldbuilding Magazine, as well as on independent creative projects including anthologies. Currently I am especially interested in book and magazine layout, poster and cover designs, as well as cover illustrations, but I’m also open for other endeavours if you have the right project!
Additionally, I am working on my long-term comic project Heirs to the Crown as well as independent illustrations I plan on releasing as prints within the nearer future.

As someone who always tried to translate the images in my head into something more tangible, my work usually starts with an idea. That can be your pitch, the afore mentioned picture in front of my inner eye, or some other inspiration.
After a bit of brainstorming, I then formulate a concept, often accompanied by a moodboard to better visualise what I’m going for and to collect references.
This is followed by rougher project sketches, then drafts to figure out the details, and eventually culminates in the finished product. Constructive feedback is crutial throughout all of the process.

A lot of it is the stories and art I experience, whether it is books, games, movies, series, music, the more classic visual arts like illustrations, drawings, paintings or sculptures, or more contemporary expressions like graphic novels, webcomics, manga, posters, installations, general graphic design, photography, whathaveyou.
Dissecting the things that I like, analysing them and figuring out how and why they work for me is often a big part of this as well. I do like to ponder. Drawing has always been a way for me to express my thoughts and figure them out more clearly, so kind of “thinking with a pen” in a way, but also showing the beauty of it all.
And then sometimes it’s also just life in general that gives you food for thought and, quintessentially, art.

Big influences on my personal style are the Art Nouveau and Impressionism movements, Japanese moku hanga woodblock prints, as well as Studio Ghibli’s filmography. Another major part are Tatjana Hauptmann’s illustrations and historic clothing from various periods and cultures that have been a throw line throughout my entire art journey ever since I was a child. My motifs typically end up quite whimsical, tranquil, and cosy in a way, and often with flowers or other nature elements. You’ll probably also notice my love for intricate details that often have their root in Indian and Persian textile art.

I refuse to work with generative AI since it has major ethical, labour, environmental, and privacy concerns that I don’t take lightly.
While it is hard to avoid programs that have AI built in in some capacity especially in the creative industry, I strictly avoid using the AI features and will continue to refuse working with them in the future. I am a professionally trained illustrator, designer and writer and thus don’t require what AI dubiously claims to accomplish.
